How much fabric do I need?

Material Guide

Look for drawings of furniture that look like yours and to see how much fabric, more or less, is required to do your job. If you are using patterned fabrics and want the patterns to match, you could need up to 50% more fabric to pattern match.

The yards displayed in the graphics are based on 54″ wide fabric. If you get 108″ – 120″ wide, cut the displayed amount by half.

Fabric yardage chart …

Upholstery Yield Chart You want to be sure to order enough upholstery fabric for your project, but don’t get too crazy, or you’ll trip over the end of your line. These charts help you get the right length for your line. Every fabric in our selection is 54 inches wide and is sold by the yard. After the first yard, it’s 1/4-yard increments.

The fabric is going to be an essential part of any sofa project and this chart will help you determine how much fabric you’ll need to complete your project. You can also use this chart to measure your sofa so that you know exactly how much fabric you’ll need to buy.

This chart shows the typical upholstery requirements based on the size of the room and the type of fabric you’d like to use. However, it’s a good general guide for most situations and you may want to make your own adjustments for your specific situation.

The overall shape of your new home is not so important, as long as it’s generally rectangular in shape and has an unobstructed view. You’ll want to pay close attention to what’s next to the house (i.e., the yard) and consider adding yards as needed.

Recommendations for using this Yardage Calculator

It’s always a good idea to order slightly more than you think you’ll need since it’s difficult to guarantee the dye lot of a future purchase.

This chart is only applicable to fabrics that have a plain surface. If you are using a fabric with a pattern, the pattern should be matched first, then the solid color.

We recommend increasing the size of each pattern you purchase by 15%. This way you don’t have to worry about matching the exact same design as the sample.

In order to measure fabric, you’ll need a yardstick and a tape measure.
